Pointe shoe, ribbon and satin
Young ballerinas have 2 dreams: get on pointe shoe and become a ballet star. Every little girl who did ballet remember her first pair of pointe shoes. It's unforgettable and it's magic.
So far, my first day on pointe shoes has been the happiest day in my life. I was 11 and was dreaming about pointe shoe since ever. It was pointe from Repetto, very pink, like a candy floss. They didn't fit my feet at all. I've been lucky I didn't get any injuries. I was so proud, it was a big step forward, an invitation to the Repertoire and I've to confess: I felt like a big star. I was Gisele, Odette, Odile, Juliette, Kitri, all together at the same time. Now, it makes me laugh and it's a marvellous souvenir.
Pointe shoe is wonderful but nobody should forget that our feet and ankles are precious. It takes time to find the right brand, then the right model that fit perfectly. But this "research" or race to the best shoe is a pure pleasure. To go to the dance shop and try pointe shoe as much as you can is delightful.
When I danced a lot, I used 3 pairs at the same time and 2 differents models. Then, they could dry between 2 lessons and I could keep them longer.
Actually I think it has been a kind of love story between my pointes shoes and I. We were the best friends in the world.
Presently, I don't wear pointe shoe that often. That's a shame but my ankles are weaker since I don't practice ballet everyday. But I will try to go back on my shoe, little by little. I'm even ready to go to a class for beginners.
For those who don't know anything about pointe shoe and want know a bit more, these are 2 video about the history of pointe shoe and some very good advices for beginners.
Enjoy!
