Bharata Natyam
Since I know about Bharata Natyam, I make a comparison with western ballet. Both try to achieve perfection and beauty and use a complicated and difficult technical language to aim at give a message and a mood, an emotion, to tell a story.
Bharata Natyam has been taught to the human by Shiva. He came on the earth to dance as the nataraja, the god of dance.
Originally Bharata Natyam was performed by the Devadasi (the bayadere) in temples. Nowadays it's performed both by men and women eventhough most of the dancers are women and on a stage. Most of little Indian girls learn it.
I won't write that much about Bharata Natyam tonight, it'll take too much time but I'm writing an article I'll publish soon (well, when it'll be ready and I hope it'll be soon
) because I think it's a very beautiful and rich dance.
I let you watch this video. That's awesome. This girl is only 12 and having already her Arangetram (kind of final exam, when the student finishes the cursus and presents her work). She's gorgeous. I love her arms, just perfection. She's (was) a student of Sri Devi Nrithyalaya, a school I got the chance to visit when I've been in Chennai. Probably one of the best school with the Kalakshetra (for Bharata Natyam what POB school is for ballet).
