D13: Ginza and Yokohama by night

I'm back in Yokohama. It's Saturday and every Saturday, in Tokyo, there's a kabuki performance. click on lire la suite for more

The Kabuki theater is in Ginza, a few minutes walk from Tokyo central station. Ginza is made for shopping addicts. But most of the shops are very expensive. The Haute couture is in Ginza: Chanel, YSL, Burberry... but there're some cheaper one as well: Zara, le Printemps (yes, like in Paris). That something I didn't really understood and still don't. It was very difficult to find Japanese brands. When I bought an umbrella for my mum I couldn't really choose the model. They were almost all from European brands.Of course, being in Japan I wanted a Japanese one. It was only 1 Hanae Mori and 4-5 Ana Sui. In a way it was better like that because I spent something like 2 hours before to buy one. Can you imagine if I had to choose between 100 differents models?

There's a kabuki performance almost every hour telling differents stories. I'm not sure about the story we saw. It's in Japanese of course but not in modern Japanese; in a kind of old language. A Japanese friend told me that even him doesn't understand everything. All I can say is that I liked the costumes and that it looked very strange. We got headset with English explanations but it didn't help because it was only 1 English narrator explaining what were saying 4 or 5 characters at the same time. Very confusing. It worths the experience for the costumes and the theater, the building, the stage but I miss a minimum of skills about Japanese story and history and language to apreciate the show.

On the way back to the station we pass by a place full of young people wearing special clothes. They are waiting for a concert. That's not the majority of girls who wear these kind of clothes. Apparently it's only a minority. Actually I'm neither pro nor cons. I won't get dress like that but I don't mind that some do dress like that. That's their own choice.

Back in Yokohama on time to enjoy the harbor by night and China town. Night falls very early, at 7pm.
